The Best of what I read in 2024

  1. If asked from memory, the best writer for me in 2024 is Cedric Chin from Commoncog – not the first year I mention him in my Top.
The most highlighted articles of 2024 were The Idea Maze is a Useless Idea, When Action Beats Prediction, Don’t Read History for Lessons, Becoming Data Driven, From First Principles.
  2. An article that fundamentally influenced his writing was David Epstein’s How to Get Better At Learning From Experience, and it is worth reading as well.
His other noticeable piece this year is his interview with Jonathan Haidt about his book “The Anxious Generation” and
  3. Cedric’s emails are also noticeable for the ‘elsewhere on the web’ rubric. It helps very well in jumping out of the bubble of known sources.
Noticeable pieces from there are On awful behavior from awakened people and The Illusion of Acceleration.
  4. But if abstain from memory or emotions, the single most highlighted article of 2024 turned out to be Silicon Valley’s vision for AI? It’s religion, repackaged by Vox.
Another AI article from the top is The LLMentalist Effect: how chat-based Large Language Models replicate the mechanisms of a psychic’s con
  5. If you are in tech, no doubt Paul Graham’s essay ‘Founder Mode.’
So I won’t cite it here – I would bring a complimentary operator perspective with Molly Graham’s Founder Mode: A Liar’s Perspective.
  6. The other top author consistently topping up my list is Adam Mastroianni.
His top pieces are Things could be better (11) and Is psychology going to Cincinnati?
  7. A new top autor I discovered this year was Jason Cohen.
The articles I highlighted the most this year were Navigating the Unpredictability of everythingRocks, Pebbles, Sand: How to implement in practice, and The Elephant in the room: The myth of exponential hypergrowth.
  8. The third permanent writer from my top, Jakob Greenfield, does not earn through writing, and thus was not very active in 2024.
His masterpieces this year were Truth is Overrated and Higher Vibrations.
  9. Annie Duke was also on top before, this year I noted her interview On nostalgia, binary bias, the paradox mindset, and our complicated past with Dolly Chugh about her book A More Just Future.
  10. The only book I did an extensive review last year was Think Again by Adam Grant.
One other article of Adam I want to note from 2024 is We need to talk about astrology.
